DELVAL VOLLEYBALL WINS 3-2 THRILLER OVER CAIRN

Box Score DOYLESTOWN (PA) – Delaware Valley College rallied from a fifth-set deficit by scoring eight of the final nine points, en route to a 3-2, non-conference triumph over visiting Cairn University.
 
The Aggies improved to 4-16 overall while the Highlands saw their record drop to 8-14.
 
Delaware Valley was up 2-1 in sets before Cairn had 10 kills and took advantage of 10 Aggie errors for a 25-13 score in the fourth set. That set up a winner-take-all fifth set and it the Highlanders that scored three straight points to turn a 7-6 deficit to a 9-6 advantage.
 
However, the rest of the night belonged to Delaware Valley starting with a kill by setter Crystal Ronan. Gina Page then served three straight points, including an ace for an 11-9 lead. Cairn got one point back but a kill by Taylor Klecan made it 12-10 Delaware Valley and the brought the serve to Ronan. She opened with an ace and then Klecan added another kill to bring up match point. Maria Cameron notched a kill to end the contest and set off an Aggie celebration.
 
The Highlanders opened the match with a 25-19 score in set number one. A back-and-fourth second set went the Aggies way, 26-24, and then led throughout nearly all of the third for a 25-20 triumph. Cairn took the fourth, setting the stage for the exciting fifth set and the Delaware Valley victory.  
 
The two teams combined for 93 kills, 23 aces and eight blocks. Cameron and Klecan, both freshmen led the Aggies with 14 kills apiece. The two also combined for 19 digs and five service aces. Page added 13 kills and 15 digs while Amy Bodine and Nicole Daigneault combined for 21 digs. Ronan finished the evening with 39 assists, 15 digs and four service aces.
 
Brigid Shgehan had 12 kills and 13 digs while Kate Steger added 11 kills, 19 digs and four blocks for Cairn. Sam Delfino handed out 31 digs and also notched 16 digs and five aces.
