Box Score 2 DOYLESTOWN (PA) – FDU-Florham picked up a pair of Freedom Conference wins on Sunday as the Devils downed host Delaware Valley College, 4-2 in the opener and 14-0 in the nightcap. The second game was called after five innings due to the eight-run mercy rule.
Both teams struggled defensively in the opener as the two combined for nine errors and only one of the runs was earned. The Devils (11-9, 6-2) took a 1-0 in the first before the Aggies (6-12, 0-6) got two in the second on an RBI double by
Nina Stachura and an RBI single by
Allison Tomasino.
FDU-Florham regained the lead in the third as it scored twice, including an RBI single by Nicole Decker. Decker then added an insurance run in the sixth with a leadoff second. Delaware Valley put the tying run on base in both the sixth and seventh, but Devils pitcher Karla Babb got out of each situation for her sixth win of the year. She allowed no earned runs and six hits over seven innings. Decker was 2-for-4 with two RBIs while Brittni Wurst was 3-for-3 with two stolen bases.
Tomasino had two of Delaware Valley's six base knocks.
Emily Gerhard took the loss despite allowing just one earned run and eight hits over seven innings while striking out five.
The nightcap was all FDU-Florham as it racked up 13 hits and took advantage of six Aggie errors. The Devils scored three runs in both the third and fourth innings and then put the game with an eight-run, fifth inning.
Sarah Lima was 2-for-4 with a double and four RBIs while Wurst, Brianne Conanan and Maggie Murphy knocked in two runs apiece. Sydney Worker hurled a two-hit shutout and fanned eight.
Brittney Jones had both of Delaware Valley's hits as she was 2-for-2.
Whitney Stacey and Gerhard pitched for the Aggies and permitted just three earned runs.
