Box Score 2 ST. DAVIDS (PA) – Janelle Fair hit two home runs in the second and picked up a pair of complete-game victories as host Eastern University swept Delaware Valley College, 4-0 and 8-4, in the Freedom Conference finale for both teams.
The Eagles improved to 14-24 overall and 5-9 in the conference while the Aggies fell to 9-25 and 0-14. Delaware Valley will wrap up the 2013 campaign on Tuesday, April 30 when it hosts Cairn University for a doubleheader.
Fair notched a six-hit shutout in the opener. Eastern scored single runs in both the first and fourth innings and put two more on the board in the fifth thanks to a two-run homer by Katelyn Donald. Donald finished 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBIs.
Katelyn Derstine went 2-for-3 for Delaware Valley while
Whitney Stacey allowed four runs in six innings and took the loss.
The nightcap belonged to Fair as she allowed three earned runs and seven hits, en route to her 14th win of the year. She hit a solo home run in the second inning and a two-run blast in the bottom of the third. Her second shot came just after the Aggies tied the game with two runs in the top of the third thanks to RBI singles by Stacey and
Jackie Wear.
Delaware Valley tied the game again, this time with two tallies in the fifth as Stacey knocked in one with a single and a second scored on an error on the same play. However, the Eagles responded with four runs in the bottom of the inning to put the game away.
Stacey led the Aggie offense by going 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Wear and
Allison Tomasino also added two hits apiece.
