KING'S SOFTBALL HOMERS IT WAY TO TWINBILL SWEEP OF DELVAL

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 DOYLESTOWN (PA) – King's College hit six home runs on the day as the Lady Monarchs swept a Freedom Conference doubleheader from host Delaware Valley College, 18-0 and 13-4. Both games were called after five innings due to the eight-run mercy rule.

It was the league openers for both teams. King's improved their overall record to 10-2 while the Aggies had their four-game winning streak come to an end as they fell to 5-5.

The Lady Monarchs sent 14 batters to the plate in the first inning of the opener as they racked up 10 runs on seven hits and three Delaware Valley errors. Amanda Cardone's two-run homer and Amy Kowalczyk's two-run double highlighted the inning.
King's then scored eight runs in the third inning off another seven hits. Katie Kowalski ended the run spurt with a three-run homer. Cardone (3-for-4), Kowalczyk (2-for-4) and Kowalski (2-for-3) had three RBIs apiece while Erin Beane drove in four and scored three on a 2-for-4 effort. Karissa Kross allowed just one hit – a double by Krystle Mazza in the fourth, and struck out eight to improve to 3-0 on the year.

In the nightcap, the Lady Monarchs took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first before the Aggies responded with four runs in their half of the stanza. Mazza drilled a two-run homer for her fifth blast of the season. Then after two got on bases, Aleixs Boucher knocked them both in with a double off the right field fence.

However, King's answered in the second inning with four runs off two hits and a pair of costly errors. The miscues continued the inning for the Lady Monarchs and they took advantage as Jenn Harnischfeger smacked a three-run homer to tie the game. Cardone then had an RBI double for a 5-4 lead.

In the third, Kowalski hit a three-run blast while Cardone and Tina Seber had back-to-back solo homers in the fourth. They then finished the game off in the fifth with three straight RBI singles. Brittany Haight took the mound after Boucher's double in the first and did not allow a hit while fanning seven for the win.

Boucher and Mazza were each 1-for-2 with two RBIs for Delaware Valley. Jackie Wear had the team's remaining hit.
