MAZZA SETS RECORDS AS DELVAL SOFTBALL SPLITS ON ITS OPENING DAY

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 FORT MYERS (FL) -- Delaware Valley College senior outfielder Krystle Mazza tied a pair of school records by hitting two home runs and driving in six runs as the Aggies opened the 2013 campaign by splitting its first two games on its Spring Break trip to Florida. The Aggies, behind Mazza's heroics, notched a 6-3 decision over Drew University in the first contest before falling, 4-1, to St. Joseph's College of Maine in the nightcap.

Delaware Valley scored three runs in its opening innings of the season as Emily Gerhard walked and Jackie Wear single. Mazza then brought them home with a blast over the left-center field fence. Drew (0-3) tied the game with one run in the third and two in the bottom of the sixth.

That set the stage for the seventh inning. Allison Tomasino had an infield single and Wear reached on aan error. Mazza then got a hold of another pitch and drove it deep again to left-center. The two home runs and six RBIs tied the school's single-game record that was achieved multiple times.

Gerhard picked up the win in relieft of Whitney Stacey who started and went three-plus innings. Stacey had two hits in the game as did Wear.

In the nightcap, St. Joseph's improved its record to a perfect 4-0 on the season with the victory. They scored a run in the first, two in the third and one in the fourth whith Rae-Marie Copan picking up the win.

Delaware Valley had three hits in the game with Mazza, Whitney Stacey and Nina Stachura having one each. Its lone run came in the second when Mazza scored on an error.
