DELVAL VOLLEYBALL DROPS 3-0 DECISION TO MISERICORDIA

DOYLESTOWN (PA) – Cailin McCullion notched 15 kills to lead Misericordia University to a 3-0 road victory over Delaware Valley College in a crucial Freedom Conference match. Set scores were 25-16, 25-20 and 28-26.

The winner of the Delaware Valley-Misericordia match eventually advanced to the conference tournament in each of the last two years. Ironically, the road team captured a five-set battle each time with the Cougars winning in Doylestown in 2010 and the Aggies returning the favor in Dallas last year.

This year was a different story as the straight-set victory improved Misericordia to 7-5 overall and 1-1 in the Freedom while the Aggies fell to 7-3 and 0-2. The Cougars finished the night with 38 kills and a .208 hitting percentage compared to 33 kills and a .096 percentage by Delaware Valley.

The first set saw the teams tied at 10-10 before Misericordia took six straight points and cruised the rest of the way. In the second, the Cougars used a 5-2 run to take a 13-10 advantage and they never trailed again.

Delaware Valley led for most of the third set until the Cougars tied it at 19-19. It was still tied at 22-22 when Misericordia won back-to-back points to give it a set of match points. However, the Aggies responded with a Gina Page kill and back-to-back aces by Alex DeFrancesco for a 25-24 lead.

McCullion followed with back-to-back kills and the Cougars once again had a match point, but that was erased on a Misericordia hitting error. A Delaware Valley player was called for going into the net to give the Cougars a 27-26 lead and a fourth crack at match point. An Aggie hitting error gave Misericordia the win.

McCullion finished with a .438 hitting percentage as she had the 15 kills and just one error in 32 attempts. She also tied for the team high in digs with 16. Meghan Stark added 13 kills and 10 digs while Nicole Korgeski finished with 26 assists and 16 digs.

Janel Gluch paced Delaware Valley with 12 kills while Gina Page added eight kills and 14 digs. Destinee Horning and Alyssa Riggins combined for 11 kills and 22 digs. Crystal Ronan handed out 27 assists.
