DOYLESTOWN (PA) – Delaware Valley College's
Erin Fox smacked a three-run homer in the sixth inning of the second game to cap a Freedom Conference doubleheader split between the Aggies and Eastern University. The visiting Eagles took the opener, 6-5, while Fox and her teammates followed with a 9-0 triumph (game called after six innings due to the eight-run mercy rule).
Delaware Valley moved its record to 8-11 overall and 1-7 in the Freedom. The split left Eastern at 13-13 overall and 3-3 in conference action.
Game two saw the Aggies score three runs in the fourth, two in the fifth and four in the sixth. They racked up 14 hits in the game with 11 coming in those final three stanzas. Meanwhile,
Whitney Stacey held Eastern to four hits, en route to the complete-game shutout. She walked none and fanned five for her third win of the year
In the fourth,
Dani Walton put Delaware Valley on the board with an RBI double.
Keri Hardiman followed with a run-scoring single and
Krystle Mazza added an RBI double. The fifth inning saw Fox knock in a run with a sacrifice fly while another scored on an Eastern error.
Jackie Wear's RBI single in the sixth made it a 6-0 contest and brought Fox up with two on. She drilled a pitch over the left field fence for her fourth home run of the season and an end to the contest.
Fox was 1-for-3 with four RBIs.
Jess Bensinger added three hits in four at-bats while Walton, Wear and
Kasey Martini had two hits apiece. Four different Eastern players racked up singles in the game. Maggie McGowan suffered the loss.
The first game saw Eastern jump out to a quick 2-0 thanks to first-inning RBIs by McGowan and Emily Houck. Delaware Valley got one back in its half of the inning as Bensinger led off with a double, moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by Martini and scored on a single by Fox.
The Eagles extended their lead over the middle innings thanks to a run in the fourth, two more in the fifth and one in the sixth. Louise Fox, Samanta Tenezonie and Jaimie Schwartz had the RBIs in those innings.
Delaware Valley made things interesting in the six by scoring four times on four hits and one Eagle error, including RBI knocks by Fox (single),
Allison Tomasino (single) and Hardiman (double). They then put runners on first and third with two outs in the seventh, but Eastern pitcher Janelle Fair recorded a strikeout for the win.
Fair went seven innings and allowed just one earned run and seven hits while fanning eight. She also helped her cause at the plate by going 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Schwartz was 3-for-3 with an RBI.
Fox was 2-for-4 with two RBIs to lead the Aggie offense.
Alexis Boucher allowed just two earned runs over five innings, but took the loss.
