RADNOR (PA) – Delaware Valley College rallied to tie game one in the seventh inning and then won it with a run in the eighth as the Aggies split a non-conference doubleheader with host Cabrini College. Delaware Valley took the first game by a 3-2 score before falling 5-3 in the nightcap.
Delaware Valley (12-15) trailed 2-1 heading into the top of the seventh with its lone tally coming way back in the first on an
Erin Fox single.
Krystle Mazza,
Jackie Wear and
Kasey Martini hit consecutive singles to load the bases with no outs. Mazza was thrown out on a fielder's choice, but Fox came through with a sacrifice fly to score Wear with the tying run.
In the eighth, a runner (
Allison Tomasino) was automatically placed on second – per international rules – and Tomasino moved to third on a ground out.
Keri Hardiman then had an infield single to bring home Tomasino for a 3-2 Aggie lead.
In the bottom of the eighth, Cabrini (16-20) had a runner on third with one out when a ground ball was hit to Tomasino at second. Tomasino threw home and nailed the runner for the second. The next batter ground out to first and Delaware Valley had the win.
Fox finished a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBIs while Wear was also 3-for-3 and scored twice. Hardiman pitched the final four innings and allowed no runs and four hits, en route to the win. Lindsey Atzert was 2-for-3 with a solo home run for Cabrini. Missy Miller went the full eight innings on the mound and took the loss.
The second game saw the Aggies take a 3-1 lead after two and a half innings of play. Wear led off the game with a home run and she also opened the third with a solo shot. The two home runs in one game tied a school record. The third run came in the third on a Cavalier error.
However, Cabrini took the lead for good with three runs in the bottom of the third, including an RBI single by Stephanie Diegel. Diegel later added a home run in the fifth inning for a 5-3 lead and that turned out to be the final score. Diegel was 3-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBIs. Marcelle Crist earned the win.
Wear was 2-for-2 with those two home runs. Fox added a 2-for-3 effort while
Nina Stachura was 2-for-3. Hardiman took the loss in relief.
