KING'S TAKES TWO FROM DELVAL

WILKES-BARRE (PA) – King's College upped its winning streak to five as the Lady Monarchs swept a Freedom Conference doubleheader from visiting Delaware Valley College, 13-4 and 11-1.

King's improved its record to 15-5 overall and 3-3 in conference play while the Aggies dropped to 6-9 overall and 0-6 in the Freedom.

Saturday's opener started off strong for Delaware Valley as it took a 4-0 lead after one and half innings of play. The Aggies got a run in the first as Jess Bensinger led off with a walk and eventually scored on a King's error. They then added three in the second as Alexis Boucher and Krystle Mazza had back-to-back RBI doubles. Mazza then scored on a wild pitch.

However, the Lady Monarchs countered in a big way in the bottom of the second as they scored 11 runs on six hits, three walks, two hit batsmen and two Delaware Valley errors. Sixteen batters went to the plate in the inning, including Rachel Zinni who knocked in four runs in her two trips. She ripped a bases-clearing double for the first three tallies and later drew a bases-loaded walk. Zinni was 1-for-1 with two runs scored and four RBIs.

King's added two more in the fourth inning on a two-run double by Amanda Cardone (2-for-4).  That was all they needed as the game was called in the fifth due to the eight-run mercy rule. Five different Aggies registered one hit in the opener.

Game two saw Delaware Valley hit the scoreboard again in the top of the first. Kasey Martini, Jackie Wear and Erin Fox notched consecutive singles to load the bases with one out. Allison Tomasino followed with a ground out that scored Martini for a 1-0 advantage.

The Lady Monarchs answered with three in their half of the inning, including a two-run double by Kaitlin Siegfried. They added three more in the second inning while a two-run homer by Tina Seber highlighted a five-run third inning.

Siegfried and Brittny Baynes knocked in three runs apiece while Cardone and Seber each had two RBIs in the nightcap. Six Aggies had one hit apiece.
