DALLAS (PA) – Caitlin Cromley pitched a six-hit shutout in the opener and came out of the bullpen to pick up the win in the second game as Misericordia University swept a Freedom Conference doubleheader over visiting Delaware Valley College, 6-0 and 6-4.
The Cougars improved to 7-7 overall and 2-0 in the conference while the Aggies fell to 6-3 and 0-2.
The first game saw Cromley notch five strikeouts and walk just two, en route to the shutout. She also added three hits and scored a run. Misericordia scored twice in the second on a sacrifice fly by Megan Hardy and a run-scoring triple by Jill Castaldi. The squad then put the game out of reach with four runs on four hits and one Delaware Valley error in the sixth.
Castaldi and Sam Hare had two RBIs apiece for Misericordia. Six different Aggies registered a hit in the contest.
Whitney Stacey took the loss.
In the nightcap, Misericordia got on the board in the bottom of the third thanks to a solo home run by Jennifer Cory. The Cougars added three tallies in the fourth to up their lead to 4-0.
Delaware Valley came storming back in the fifth inning as it put two runners on with two outs.
Erin Fox singled through the left side to make it 4-1.
Dani Walton followed with a run-scoring single and another run scored on an error on the play. Two batters later,
Allison Tomasino tied the game with an RBI single to left field.
However, Misericordia answered in its half of the fifth as an Aggie error eventually led to a sacrifice fly by Kat LaBrie. Mallory Getts upped the advantage to 6-4 in the sixth with an RBI single. Cromley took care of the rest as she went two-plus innings in relief.
Tomasino was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI while
Jess Bensinger went 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored for the Aggies.
Keri Hardiman pitched the final two-plus innings and suffered the loss.
