ST. DAVIDS (PA) – Eastern University showed why it's the fifth-ranked team in all of Division III as the Eagles notched a .421 hitting percentage, en route to a 3-0 victory over visiting Delaware Valley College. Set scores were 25-10, 25-14 and 25-16.
It was the Freedom Conference opener for both teams. Eastern, the three-time defending league champions, improved its overall mark to 8-1 while the Aggies fell to 5-3.
The Eagles finished with 43 kills and just 11 errors in 76 attempts. They also racked up 12 service aces and three blocks. All-American Courtney Reinhold delivered 12 kills and no errors in 16 attempts to lead the charge. Fellow All-American Maria Horning dished out 35 assists.
Delaware Valley battled all evening and finished with 19 kills and four blocks.
Janel Gluch and
Destinee Horning had six kills apiece with Horning also adding thee blocks.
Gina Page notched four kills while
Crystal Ronan handed out 18 assists.
