AGGIES FALL TWICE AT DESALES

CENTER VALLEY (PA) – DeSales University racked up 15 runs and 17 hits, en route to a Freedom Conference doubleheader sweep of visiting Delaware Valley College. The Bulldogs opened with an 11-3, five-inning victory and followed with a 4-3 triumph in the nightcap.

The first game was all DeSales (16-8, 7-3) as the Bulldogs jumped out to a 6-0, first inning lead. Pitcher Jen Lococo helped her own cause with a two-run homer in the first. DeSales then loaded the bases in the stanza and Shelly McCarthy drilled a grand slam home run over the right-center field fence.

The Bulldogs added two more runs in the second inning before the Aggies (9-17, 3-7) got on the board in the third. With two on and two out, freshman Jackie Wear singled through the left side to knock in a pair and make it an 8-3 ballgame.

Delaware Valley added another run in the fifth on an RBI single by Wear. Later in the inning, they loaded the bases loaded with two outs, but Lococo escaped the jam by getting a ground out. DeSales' Brianna Chilcoat then put the eight-run mercy rule into effect in the bottom of the inning as she smacked a three-run homer.

Lococo picked up her sixth win of the year and allowed just two earned runs over five innings. She was also 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBIs at the plate.

Wear was 2-for-3 with three RBIs while Erin Fox was a perfect 2-for-2 for the Aggies. Greer McComas took the loss.

The nightcap was scoreless until the top of the fourth when Delaware Valley plated three runs. Allison Tomasino walked and Keri Hardiman reached on an error, brining Fox to the plate. The junior connected for her third home run of the season, a shot over the left field fence.

However, the Bulldogs rallied with two runs in the fifth and two more in the sixth for the 4-3 advantage. Lococo knocked in both in the fifth with a double while Kate Steiner and Kristin Schultz had RBIs in the sixth.

Delaware Valley threatened in the seventh as Jess Bensinger walked and moved all the way to third on a pair of ground outs. However, reliever Christine Petrilla got the final out for the victory.

Fox was 2-for-3 with the home run and three RBIs for Delaware Valley. Whitney Stacey took the loss in relief of Maggie Kichler.
