DELVAL SWEEPS PENN STATE ABINGTON

ABINGTON (PA) – Delaware Valley College ran its record to 5-1 over the last six games as the Aggies swept a non-conference doubleheader from host Penn State Abington, 11-2 and 9-2.

In the opener, Delaware Valley (7-5) trailed 2-0 heading into the sixth inning. However, the team sent 14 batters to the plate in that stanza and notched nine runs on nine hits and a pair of Nittany Lion errors. The big blows were both delivered by freshmen – a two-run double by Jackie Wear and a two-run single by Nina Stachura. Kasey Martini also knocked in two runs in the inning.

The Aggies added two more runs in the seventh and had two hits in the inning as well. In fact, 11 of their 14 hits in the game came in the final two stanzas. Whitney Stacey had three hits in four at-bats while Wear, Jess Bensinger, Keri Hardiman and Allison Tomasino notched two hits apiece. Loran Mihaliak picked up the win as she allowed one earned run and three hits over five innings.

The second game saw Delaware Valley jump out to a 3-0 lead as Tomasino had an RBI double in the third and Katie Kirk added an RBI single in the fourth. The Aggies also scored on a wild pitch in the fourth.

Penn State Abington (0-12) got one run back in the bottom of the fourth on Trish Watson's RBI double. The Aggies responded in their next at-bat by plating two runs on a single by Mihaliak. Delaware Valley's final run of the game was in the seventh when Mihaliak drew a bases-loaded walk.

Tomasino finished the game 3-for-3 with two doubles, three stolen bases, two runs scored and and one RBI. Mihaliak was 1-for-3 with three RBIs. Stacey went four innings and allowed one run and two hits while picking up her first collegiate win. Hardiman pitched the final three innings to earn her second save of the season.
