DELVAL SPLITS AGAIN

FORT MYERS (FL) – Delaware Valley College moved its record to 2-2 on the season as it split a pair of games Tuesday on its Spring Break trip to Florida. The Aggies opened the afternoon with a 4-1 victory over Amherst College and then dropped a 4-0 decision to University of New England.

The first contest of the day saw Delaware Valley trail 1-0 heading into the bottom of the sixth inning. However, the Aggies responded with four runs off of four hits and a pair of costly Amherst (3-2) errors in the stanza. Jackie Wear doubled to start the inning and moved to third on a sacrifice. She then came around to score the tying run on a Jess Bensinger's RBI single. Erin Fox followed with a single and, after the second out, a pair of errors on the same play allowed both Bensinger and Fox to score to make it 3-1. Dani Walton upped the lead to three with an RBI single.

Loran Mihaliak picked up the win in relief as she allowed one hit in two innings of work. Greer McComas had a strong start and she permitted just one run and five hits in five innings. Theresa Kelly took the loss for Amherst despite allowing just one earned run in six innings. She also knocked in her team's lone run of the game.

The second game saw New England pitcher Amber Zablowsky toss a five-hit, complete-game shutout. She also fanned six batters to help the Nor'easters improved to 2-4 on the season.

New England scored three runs in the third inning with the big blow being a two-run double by Ashley Gott. The team added an unearned tally in the fifth.

Fox had three of the Aggies' five hits as she was a perfect 3-for-3 in the game. Maggie Kichler took the loss as the junior allowed three runs (two earned) and four hits in four innings.
