PAVLIK TIES ALL-TIME RBI RECORD, AGGIES DROP TWO AT MISERICORDIA

DALLAS (PA) – Senior shortstop Bethany Pavlik tied the Delaware Valley College all-time record for RBIs, but the Aggies were eliminated from Freedom Conference playoff contention with a pair of losses at Misericordia University, 3-2 and 4-2.

Delaware Valley saw its record fall to 11-6 overall and 3-9 in the Freedom. The Aggies were seeking their fourth consecutive trip to the conference postseason this year and the right to play in front of the home crowd as the school is hosting the double-elimination tournament on May 7 and 8. They will instead close out the campaign with non-conference home doubleheaders on Monday (Lebanon Valley College) and Tuesday (Philadephia Biblical University) and a home conference twinbill with Wilkes University on Saturday.

Misericordia will make the trip to Doylestown for the Freedom playoffs as the Cougars clinched a berth with the twinbill sweep. They improved to 20-13 overall and 7-5 in the Freedom and will join DeSales University, King's College and Manhattanville College in the four-team field (all four seeds are still up for grabs).

Pavlik knocked in a run in the first inning of the nightcap to give Delaware Valley a 1-0 lead and tie former teammate Nicole Dorney's career record of 95 RBIs. Pavlik is already tied with Dorney '08 for the all-time mark of 19 home runs and will have the six games to break both records. She also has 135 career hits and is six shy of tying 1994 graduate and Delaware Valley Hall of Famer Kelly Sciss for that standard.

The Cougars put one on the board in the second, two in the third and one in the fifth for a 4-1 advantage. Nicole Boccia had a solo home run to account for the first tally while Nicole Wenner had a pair of run-scoring doubles in that stretch.

Delaware Valley got one back in the sixth on an RBI single by Sarah Lazar. It then put the tying runs on base in the seventh, before Caitlin Cromley got the final out for the save. Kit Lucenti picked up the win as she allowed one run and four hits in five innings. Wenner was 2-for-3 with two RBIs while Hollie Sarnak was a perfect 3-for-3 and scored two runs. Bensinger had a multiple-hit game as she was 2-for-4 with a run scored. Maggie Kichler pitched five innings and took the loss.

The opener was scoreless until the top of the fourth when Lazar hit a solo home run, her second of the season. The Cougars came right back in the bottom of the inning with a two-run single by Ashley Ballard. Delaware Valley tied the contest in the top of the fifth as pinch-runner Emily Bobal scored on an RBI single by Kasey Martini.

However, Misiericordia scored what proved to be the game-winning run in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI single by Sarnak. Delaware Valley put the tying run on with two outs in the seventh, but Lucenti completed her first win of the day. She allowed two runs and five hits over the seven stanzas.

Five separate Aggies had one hit apiece in the contest. Greer McComas took the loss despite allowing just three runs (one earned) and three hits in six innings of work.
