GLENSIDE (PA) –
Greer McComas and
Maggie Kichler picked up victories as Delaware Valley College swept a non-conference doubleheader from host Arcadia University, 13-4 and 2-1.
McComas improved to 4-5 on the season as the freshman allowed four runs and eight while fanning one in five innings of work in the opener. She also helped her own cause at the plate as she went 2-for-3 with a home run, one run scored and one RBI. Kichler, a sophomore, permitted just one unearned run and five hits in the nightcap while moving her mark to 2-4 on the year.
The Aggies (11-12) racked up 14 hits and scored in five of the seven innings in the opener. They led 2-1 after three innings thanks to RBIs by
Allison Tomasino in both the first and third stanzas. They then added five runs in the fourth thanks to McComas' round-tripper, a two-run double by Tomasino and a pair of runs off Arcadia errors.
The Knights (12-15) countered with three tallies, all on a home run by Kellie Reese, in their half of the fourth game. However, Delaware Valley put the game away with a run in the sixth and five more in the seventh.
Keri Hardiman notched an RBI single in the sixth while
Ashley Grove had the key blow in the final inning with a two-run homer.
Jess Bensinger and
Kasey Martini added RBIs in the seventh as well.
Bensinger finished the opener a perfect 4-for-4 with two doubles, four runs scored and one RBI. Tomasino, a fellow freshman, was 2-for-4 with three RBIs. Grove's home run was the rookie's lone hit of the contest. Bekcy Furman pitched the final two innings in relief of McComas and allowed just one hit.
The nightcap saw Delaware Valley score single runs in the second and third innings for a 2-0 advantage. With two outs in the second,
Emily Bobal notched a bunt single, stole second and advanced to third on an errant throw, and then scored on Bensinger's RBI single to center. Tomasino led off the third with a double and scored on an RBI by Pavlik. It was Pavlik's 92nd career RBI and pulled the senior and three-time all-conference honoree to within three of tying Nicole Dorney's all-time school record.
Arcadia made in a one-run ballgame in the sixth on an RBI single by Virginia Buechel. The Knights then put the tying run on first base with one in the seventh, but Komsl Patel lined into a double play to end the contest.
The Aggies managed just five hits in the contest with Tomasino leading the way with a 2-for-3 effort. Buechel and Amy Johnson had two hits apiece for Arcadia. Kelsey Roberts took the loss despite allowing just one earned run over seven innings.
