AGGIES SWEPT BY DESALES IN FREEDOM TWINBILL

DOYLESTOWN (PA) – Jen Lococo hit three home runs and knocked in six runs over the two games and also picked up the victory on the mound in the nightcap as visiting DeSales University swept a Freedom Conference doubleheader from Delaware Valley College, 7-0 and 8-3.

The Bulldogs, who were the conference champions two years ago and the runner-up in 2009, improved to 10-6 overall and a perfect 4-0 in the Freedom. The Aggies fell to 6-7 and 0-2 and will return to action on Sunday when they travel to FDU-Florham for another conference twinbill.

Lococo, a junior, led off the third inning of the opener with a home run to left field, and she followed with a three-run bomb to straightaway center field in the fourth. She finished the contest 2-for-3 with those four RBIs.

DeSales put two on the board in the first inning on a two-out, two-run double by Kristin Schultz. After Lococo took care of the runs in the middle innings, the Bulldogs completed the scoring in the sixth in an RBI single by Kerri Andrews. Andrew was 2-for-3 and scored two runs in the game.

Meanwhile, Katie Morrissey limited to Delaware Valley to just three hits and struck out nine for the complete-game shutout. The lone Aggie hits were singles by Sarah Lazar, Kasey Martini and Bethany Pavlik. Maggie Kichler went four innings and took the loss.

Lococo took the mound in the nightcap and allowed just three runs and seven hits while fanning five. Her third round-tripper of the afternoon was a two-run shot over the center field fence to up the Bulldog lead to 3-0. They got their first run in the first as Andrews led off with a single and eventually scored on a groundout by Christine Petrilla.

Delaware Valley made it a one-run game in the bottom of the third as Allison Tomasino and Martini had singles and Keri Hardiman drew a walk to load the bases. That brought Pavlik to the plate and the three-time all-conference honoree ripped the first pitch up the middle for a two-run single.

DeSales responded with a run in the fourth as Andrews notched an RBI single. The Bulldogs then put the contest away in the seventh as they recorded four runs on four hits and a pair of Aggie errors. Martini's RBI single in the bottom of the stanza made it an 8-3 final.

Locco and Petrilla each drove in two runs in the nightcap with Lococo also scoring twice in a 2-for-3 showing. Tomasino led Delaware Valley with a 3-for-3 effort and the freshman also scored two runs in the game. Martini was 2-for-4 while Pavlik was 1-for-2 with two RBIs. Freshman Greer McComas took the loss.
