DOYLESTOWN (PA) – Delaware Valley College opened the home portion of its schedule with a pair of shutout victories over Penn State Abington, 15-0 and 11-0. Both games were called after five innings due to the eight-run mercy rule.
The wins lifted the Aggies' record to over the .500 mark as they are now 6-5 overall. They will now get set for four Freedom Conference games this weekend as they host 2009 runner-up DeSales University on Saturday and travel to FDU-Florham on Sunday for doubleheaders. Penn State Abington fell to 0-14 on the year.
The first game saw Delaware Valley send 15 batters to the plate as it notched 10 runs on 10 hits and one Nittany Lion error. The Aggies then added five more tallies in the second, including a grand slam home run by
Bethany Pavlik. The senior now has 18 career round-trippers and is one shy of tying the school record held by Nicole Dorney.
Eighteen players saw time in the game for Delaware Valley and 12 of the 16 who came to the plate (the two pitchers did not bat) notched at least one hit. Pavlik was 3-for-3 with the home run, two runs scored and five RBIs in just two innings of action.
Kasey Martini was 2-for-3 with a double, two runs scored and two RBIs while
Dani Walton was 2-for-2, scored one run and knocked in two.
Maggie Kichler and
Becky Furman teamed for the two-hit shutout with Furman earning the win with three innings of relief.
In the nightcap, Delaware Valley scored six times in the first and added three more in the third to account for its 11 runs.
Sarah Lazar went 2-for-4 with a run scored and three RBIs while Kaitlyn Fack was 3-for-3 with two run scored and one RBI.
Allison Tomasino was a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs scored and two RBIs while
Emily Bobal was 1-for-2 and knocked in a pair of runs.

Bethany Pavlik combined to limit Penn State Abington to just one hit in the game, a leadoff single by Asami Kunimoto. McComas went the first three innings and was credited with the win.
