DOYLESTOWN (PA) – Two-time defending Freedom Conference and fifth-ranked Eastern University completed a perfect regular-season run in the league with a 3-0 victory at Delaware Valley College. Set scores were 25-8, 25-21 and 25-16.
The Eagles ran their record to 24-3 overall and 7-0 in the Freedom while the Aggies fell to 11-16 and 3-4. Delaware Valley will host New Jersey City University for the season finale on Friday, October 29.
The first set saw the Delaware Valley hold a 5-4 lead before Eastern scored 21 of the next 24 points. Delaware Valley was tied at 16-16 and trailed by just two, 22-20, late in the middle set before the Eagles finished it off. The Aggies also held an early lead in the third, but Eastern pulled away to complete the win.
Rachel Wenger had 10 kills to pace the Eagles while two-time All-American Courtney Reinhold added nine kills and eight digs in two sets of action. All-American setter Maria Horning dished out 35 assists and also finished the evening with four kills and 13 digs.
Freshman
Janel Gluch had seven kills and just one error in 12 attempts to lead Delaware Valley.
Kaitlyn Olsen notched six kills and three digs while
Destinee Horning had three kills, three blocks and 10 digs.
Alyssa Riggins led the defensive effort with 12 digs and
Amy Scordato handed out 18 assists.
