DELVAL TAKES TWO OF THREE AT PENN STATE BERKS TOURNAMENT

READING (PA) – Delaware Valley College improved its record to 6-2 on the year as the Aggies won two of three matches at the Penn State-Berks tournament on Saturday.

The Aggies opened with a thrilling 3-2, come-from-behind victory over Washington College and followed with a 3-0 blanking of the host school. They nearly made it a perfect day, but dropped a tough 3-2 decision to Arcadia University.

In the Washington match, Delaware Valley fell behind 2-0 with 25-22 and 25-13 losses in the first two sets. The Aggies then faced two match points, but rallied for four straight to take the third set, 26-24. They then went on to take the next two 25-19 and 15-12 for the victory.

Kelsey Fisher and Kaitlyn Olsen had 11 kills apiece while Jaki Blood added nine kills and 18 assists. Amy Estep and Ashley Mikulsky had eight kills apiece and combined for 46 digs. Amy Scordato dished out 25 helpers and Emily Robillard finished with 20 digs in her first match as a libero.

The Aggies cruised to 25-16, 25-17 and 25-10 scores against Penn State-Berks. Olsen led the way with 12 kills while Blood had 21 assists. Robillard led the defensive effort with 16 digs.

The Arcadia match saw four of the five sets go extra time. Delaware Valley took a 2-1 lead with scores of 17-25, 26-24 and 26-24. The Knight forced a fifth set with a 26-24 score of its own and the fifth set went overtime as well with Arcadia pulling out the match with an 18-16 final.

Olsen notched a season-high 18 kills while Mikulsky added 11 kills and 27 digs. Estep had eight kills and Robillard tallied 26 digs. Blood and Scordato combined for 36 assists.
