FORMER COACHING LEGEND AL WILSON PASSES AWAY

DOYLESTOWN (PA) -- Delaware Valley College has been saddened to learn that former football coach and director of athletics Al Wilson passed away in the early morning hours of July 19 at the age of 71.

Wilson came to Delaware Valley College in 1976 after collegiate coaching stints at Temple University and Princeton University. He coached a total of 11 seasons with the Aggies and compiled a 51-53-1 record with 48 of those victories coming over his final eight campaigns. The 51 wins stills stands as a school record in the modern era.

The highlight of his Delaware Valley coaching tenure were three straight championships in the old Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC)-Northern Divison from 1980 to 1982 - the first such titles in Aggie history. The 1980 squad went 7-3 and won the outright title while both the 1981 and 1982 editions went 8-2 and shared the crown with Juniata College and Lycoming College respectively.

Wilson played in an instrumental in the building of James Work Memorial Stadium, a facility that opened in 1978 and is still used today. The stadium played a significant role in the local area as it used to host the annual Thanksgiving game between local high schools Central Bucks East and Central Bucks West.

Wilson was recently selected for induction into the Delaware Valley College Athletic Hall of Fame. The official ceremony is slated to take place at halftime of the 2009 home opener with Johns Hopkins University on Saturday, September 5.
