DELVAL DROPS PAIR OF NON-CONFERENCE GAMES TO ARCADIA

DOYLESTOWN (PA) – Arcadia University batted around in the first inning of both games as the Knights swept a non-conference doubleheader from host Delaware Valley College, 9-4 and 10-4.

Arcadia (20-4) sent 10 batters to the plate in the opening inning of the day as it produced seven runs on five hits. Virginia Buechel and Ashley McCarthy knocked in two runs apiece with a single and double respectively. Pitcher Kiersten Hughes then had the big blow as she smacked a three-run homer from the number nine hole in the lineup. The Aggies never got closer than five runs the rest of the way.

Buechel later hit a home run in the game as she went 4-for-4 with three runs scored and three RBIs. Hughes finished 2-for-4 with three RBIs at the plate and improved to 8-2 with a complete-game performance on the mound.

Krystal Diaz and Bethany Pavlik each went 2-for-4 with a double for the Aggies (8-10). Diaz scored two runs while Pavlik crossed home plate once. Lacy Miles knocked in two runs in the opener.

The nightcap saw Arcadia sent 10 batters to the plate again in the opening inning. The Knights managed to score four runs without a hit thanks to six walks and one Aggie error. Delaware Valley responded with two runs in the bottom of the first and added one more in the third to make it a 4-3 ballgame. However, the Knights countered with two runs in each of the next three innings, en route to the 10-4 final.

Buechel was 2-for-3 with two RBIs while Kristen Burns was 1-for-3 and knocked home three. Kelsey Roberts went the distance and improved to 4-2.

Pavlik was 2-for-3 including her third home run of the season, a solo shot in the fifth inning. Keri Hardiman notched an RBI triple while Diaz also knocked in a run.
