DELVAL DROPS PAIR OF GAMES TO KING'S

DOYLESTOWN (PA) – King's College pitcher Lindsey Hoerner notched a pair of victories as the Lady Monarchs swept a Freedom Conference doubleheader from host Delaware Valley College, 16-0 and 4-1. The first game was called after five innings due to the eight-run mercy rule.

The losses dropped the Aggies (12-12, 8-4) out of first place and into a tie for second with defending Freedom champion DeSales University heading into the final week of the regular season. Delaware Valley can clinch a conference playoff berth for the third straight year with just one win at Eastern University on Tuesday, April 21. King's, which has won seven Freedom championships this decade, moved into the fifth and final playoff spot as the squad is now 16-12 overall and 7-7 in the league.

Hoerner hurled a three-hit shutout while fanning three batters in the first game. She received all the offense she would need with a run in the first inning. The Lady Monarchs then blew the game wide open with six runs in the second, four in the third and five more in the fifth.

Abbey Knoblauch went 3-for-4 with two doubles, three runs scored and thee RBIs. Becky Loring drove in four runs with a 2-for-3 effort while Katie Fry went 3-for-4, scored three runs and knocked in two. Hoerner helped her own cause with three RBIs. Krystal, Erin Fox and Bethany Pavlik had the lone hits for the Aggies.

In the nightcap, Hoerner kept Delaware Valley off the scoreboard for three more innings. King's notched a run in the top of the third and then added three in the fourth for a 4-0 advantage.

The Aggies got one run back in the bottom of the fourth as Keri Hardiman led off with a double and she scored on a one-out RBI single by Pavlik. Delaware Valley brought the tying run to the plate with one out in the inning, but Hoerner got out of the jam.

The Aggies threatened again the sixth as, after the opening out, they loaded the bases with singles by Pavlik and Lacy Miles and a walk to Erin Fox sandwiched in-between. Hoerner was replaced by Shawna Walp and the reliever was able to get a strikeout and pop out to end the inning. She then held Delaware Valley in check in the seventh for the save.

Pavlik went 2-for-2 with an RBI while Hardiman pitched three-plus innings of scoreless relief for the Aggies. Fry and Knobulach each went 2-for-3 for King's while Loring was 2-for-4.
