AGGIES CONTINUE TO ROLL, TAKE TWO FROM FDU-FLORHAM

DOYLESTOWN (PA) – Delaware Valley College upped its winning streak to four and remained in first place in the Freedom Conference as the Aggies swept a doubleheader from visiting FDU-Florham, 7-1 and 9-5.

The games were the first for the Aggies in eight days and they improved to 12-10 overall and 8-2 in the conference play. Three Freedom doubleheaders remain on the schedule, including a home twinbill with King's College tomorrow. The Devils fell to 15-11 and 3-7.

Delaware Valley used the long ball in the first game as Erin Fox and Lacy Miles smacked two-run homers in the win. The contest was knotted at 1-1 heading into the bottom of the fourth when Fox hit a line drive shot to straightaway center field for her third home run of the season. Later in the inning, Miles doubled in a run for a 4-1 advantage.

In the sixth, the Aggies added a run on an RBI single by Kasey Martini and Miles followed with a bomb over the center field fence for a 7-1 lead. It was the senior's second round-tripper of the season and she finished the game 2-for-3.

That was all that Maggie Kichler would need as the freshman hurler improved to 3-5 on the season. She went the full seven innings and allowed just one run and six hits while striking out a career-high eight.

In the nightcap, Delaware Valley scored an unearned run in the first, but FDU-Florham plated home a pair of runs in the fourth on RBI singles by Megan Golembiewski and Tina Banta. However, the lead was brief as the Aggies came back with four unearned runs – all with two outs - in the bottom of the stanza. Lauren Fenstermacher gave them the lead for good with a two-run single and, later in the evening, Robyn Jackson drove home a pair of run with a triple.

The teams exchanged runs before Delaware Valley added three more in the sixth inning for a 9-3 advantage. With two outs, Bethany Pavlik delivered an RBI single and Fox followed with a two-run single. The Devils made things interesting in the seventh as they scored twice and had the tying run on deck, but the Aggies were able to hold on for the win.

Freshman Brianne Birtell allowed three runs over five innings and improved her record to 6-2 on the year. Fellow rookie Becky Furman took over after two batters in the sixth inning and notched her fifth save. Fox was 2-for-4 with two RBIs while Jackson was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBIs.

Christine Heyl notched her second home run of the season for FDU-Florham as she went 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Golembiewski was also 2-for-4 with two RBIs in the loss.
