DELVAL ENDS TRIP TO FLORIDA WITH A PAIR OF LOSSES

FORT MYERS (FL) – The Delaware Valley College softball teams ended its Spring Break trip to Florida with losses to Fredonia State University (7-6 in 8 innings) and Roger Williams University (1-0).

The Aggies will head back to Pennsylvania with a 4-4 record. They will return to action on Sunday, March 22 when they travel to Wilkes University for a Freedom Conference doubleheader.

The Fredonia State game saw Delaware Valley force extra innings as senior Robyn Jackson smacked a two-out triple to score Nancy Kaufmann. Kaufmann had opened the stanza as a pinch-hitter and reached base on an error.

The game went to the international tiebreaker rules in the eighth as the last batter from the seventh inning was placed at second base. Fredonia State knocked her in as well as two others for a 7-4 advantage.

In the Aggies' half of the eighth, Bethany Pavlik knocked in two with a single to pull to within one. They then had runners on second and third with no outs, but Fredonia pitcher Jennifer Tighe got out of the jam with a pop out, strikeout and a lineout. Pavlik finished 3-for-4 with three RBIs.

The nightcap featured a pitchers duel between Delaware Valley's Maggie Kichler and Roger Williams' Alexandra Sera as each allowed just three hits apiece. Roger Williams scored the lone run in the bottom of the sixth as Hanna Pirez connected for a two-out triple and Samantha Teves drove her in with a single.
