Aggies Set Two School Records on Opening Weekend

GALLOWAY, N.J. – The Delaware Valley men's and women's track and field teams traveled to the Osprey Open, hosted by Stockton, to kick off the 2024 outdoor track season. DelVal set two school record and had nine athletes take the podium.
 
James Mahana started things off for the Aggies in the men's hammer throw placing third with a throw of 45.95m. The mark set a new program record previously set by him in 2023 at 45.78m. Brother John Mahana came in seventh in the event with a new career-best mark of 35.32m topping his previous best by nearly five meters.
 
Brandon Perot finished with the silver in two events for the Aggies. He reached a distance of 13.52m in the shot put followed by a school-best mark in the discus reaching a distance of 50.09m. He beat the previous school-record, set in 2019, by nearly two meters. The mark also puts Perot at third nationally in the event.
 
Justin Kaufman continued the podium trend on the men's side taking first in the 400-meter besting his career-best mark by nearly three seconds clocking in at 49.91 for first place. He went on to join Jayce Corbin, Colton Del Collo and Caleb Messenger for the men's 4x400-meter relay placing third with a final time of 3:34.11.
 
Four Aggies took the podium on the women's side. Alyssa Blackmon started things off in the women's 5,000-meter with a third-place finish clocking in at 19:44.94. Zariah Prescott also earned the bronze in the 100-meter with a final time of 13.48.
 
Both Kelly Hastings and Remington Walter placed second in their respective events. Hastings clocked in at a career-best time of 1:00.41 in the 400-meter while Walter placed second in the pole vault with a height of 2.75m.
 
DelVal returns to action next Saturday, Apr. 6 for the Delaware Invite.
