SELINGSGROVE (Pa.) – Sophomore Brandon Perot represented the Delaware Valley University Outdoor Track and Field program at the 2023 All-Atlantic Region Track and Field Conference (AARTFC) Championship tournament on Thursday, and finished 11th out of 27 in the men's discus and set a new personal record.
Perot was one of four Aggies to qualify for the regional championship, but the only one on the heat sheets this weekend. Perot punched his ticket by clearing 43 meters in the men's discus. Senior Logan Cooper and sophomore Adam Coleman each qualified for two different events, but could not compete this weekend. Cooper qualified in the 400 meter run while Coleman did so in the 400-meter hurdles, and each were part of the DelVal 4x400 team that would have competed.
The two-day championship event features teams from the Metro, Mideast, Mid-Atlantic and Niagara Regions across NCAA Division III, including defending men's champion Rowan and women's champion SUNY Geneseo. All events this year are held at Doug Arthur Stadium in Selingsgrove, Pennsylvania and hosted by Susquehanna University.
Opening operations for the 2017-18 academic year, the AARTFC conducts two championship meets annually for NCAA Division III track & field teams. Perot is the first DelVal Track and Field athlete to qualify and compete at the event.
On Thursday, facing high winds and cooler temperatures, Perot stepped up for his first attempt and was called for a foul. He made good on his next toss as he reached 43.76 meters (143'-7"). He broke his personal best of 43.23 meters that he set just two weeks ago at the MAC Championships. The mark held up for 11th best in the region.
Andrew Mott of York College won the event with a meet record, 53.42 meters, and Zachary Mackiewicz of TCNJ finished runner-up with 50.26 meters.
