GRANTHAM (Pa.) – The Delaware Valley University men's and women's outdoor track and field team welcomed senior Logan Cooper back to the lineup as he fueled the charge for the programs at the Messiah Invitational on Saturday.
In his first meet back from injury, Cooper qualified for the Middle Atlantic Conference Championship meet in men's 400-meter, 200-meter, and as part of the men's 4x400-meter relay team.
The relay team consisted of Cooper, first-year Caleb Messenger, and sophomores Adam Coleman and Matt O'Dunlami. The group posted a time of 3:22.22 to win the day's event and set the season-best mark in the MAC.
In the individual men's 400-meter, Cooper finished in 50.42 seconds and was narrowly edged out of third place by a photo-finish. O'Dunlami finished top-10 with a 50.93 mark and Messenger was 12th with his 51.68 second finish. Moses Madison was 21st with a time of 52.68.
In the 200-meters, Cooper's time of 23.21 was good for 18th of 78.
Coleman shined in the 400-meter hurdles with a third place showing out of 30 competitors as he finished in 56.08 seconds. Coleman was also a member of the 4x100 team along with Madison, O'Dunlami, and Janiel Taveras. That squad finished fifth of 12 with a time of 43.91 seconds.
First-year Luke Moore competed in the men's javelin and well-surpassed his career-best mark with a throw of 43.62 meters, good enough for 16th place of 43 athletes. Close behind Moore was teammate Nicholas Lienhard with a throw of 43.53 meters for 18th overall. Sophomore Billy Mayer also eclipsed 40 meters to finish 25th.
In the women's javelin, Delaney Hilferty reached 26.76 meters to earn 18th of 37. Junior Alyssa Blackmon had another strong showing in the women's steeplechase with a mark of 12:43.18 to finish third of 11.
Also on the women's side, Kaitlin Jones competed in the shot put and the discus and reached 8.07 and 31.31 meters, respectively. The 4x100-meter team of Kelly Hastings, Catherine Couse, Chantae Newman, and Alysia Joseph ran 53.65 second race, and the 4x400 meter team ran a 4:45.72.
Next week, the Aggies will compete at the Coach Pollard Invitational at Moravian on Saturday, April 22.
