Women's Soccer Prevails In 2-0 Victory Over Manhattanville At Home

Box Score

DOYLESTOWN (Pa.) – The Delaware Valley University women's soccer team scored twice in the second half to win its second-straight game of the season in a 2-0 shutout of visiting Manhattanville College.

The Aggies (2-0) outshot the Valiants (0-2) 8-2 in the first half with a 2-1 edge in shots on goal and corner opportunities. Neither team could find the back of the net, but DelVal had the better of the chances as the game remained scoreless into the second half.

Sophomore midfielder Jess Williamson, the Aggies' leading scorer a year ago, netted her first goal of the season in the 52nd minute to break the scoreless tie and give DelVal a 1-0 lead. Williamson collected a ball near midfield, made two nice moves to beat a defender, and fired a shot off her right foot over the head of the keeper and into the top right corner.

Sophomore keeper Viola Anderson replaced senior Olivia Sherwood in goal to start the second half and came up big with a brilliant save in the 77th minute to keep DelVal in the lead. Caitlyn White received the ball at the top of the box after a nice passing play by the Valiants and ripped a shot destined for the far post until Anderson dove to her right and saved the shot with her outstretched hand.

On the ensuing attack, the Aggies earned three throw ins including one deep in Valiants territory that Marley Bramsway sent to the end line where Williamson boxed out a defender and sent a cross into the box that sophomore Alice Kaufman put her right foot on and deposited it into the net to give DelVal a 2-0 lead. For Kaufman, it was her first goal as an Aggie and Bramsway picked up her first assist of the season.

Anderson made two more saves down the stretch to preserve the 2-0 victory for the home team.

Williamson scored her first goal of the season and picked up her second assist of the year to lead DelVal. Sherwood and Anderson split time in net and combined for five saves. Macey Girard played all 90 minutes in goal for Manhattanville and made eight saves.

The Aggies will be right back at it tomorrow with its first road game of the season at Susquehanna.
