Box Score CHESTER (Pa.) – The Delaware Valley University field hockey team played its first road game of the season on Saturday afternoon, but it was the host Widener University Pride that came away with the 2-0 victory.
The Aggies' (0-1) offense was held to three corner attempts and two shots in the game as Widener improved to 1-1 overall with the win.
The Pride had 25 shots in the game, but just eight on goal, and earned 12 corner attempts.
After a tight first quarter that saw the two teams combined for just two shots, Widener was able to score twice in the second. Maddie Hoyer opened the scoring 3:19 into the stanza thanks to an assist from Bryn Marcavage. Just over five minutes later Katie Labezius made it a two-goal game when she successfully converted a penalty shot.
Ashley Birmingham and Kenzie Boyd registered the shots for DelVal and keeper Alyssa Rudd made five saves in the game.
The Aggies return home on Wednesday, September 7 to take on Gwynedd Mercy at 4 p.m.
