Marywood Edges Field Hockey in Late-Game Decision

DOYLESTOWN, Pa. – The Delaware Valley field hockey team opened the scoring against visiting Marywood, but the Pacers netted the game-winner in the fourth quarter to hand the Aggies a 2-1 setback.

DelVal generated offensive momentum late in the first quarter, earning three consecutive penalty corners in a 40-second span. Jillian Collins, Ava Smadi and Kylie Conley connected on the third attempt, with Collins delivering a clean insert to Smadi, who set up Conley for the opening goal. Marywood responded with three corners of its own in the final minute, converting on the third opportunity to even the score before the end of the quarter.

The pace slowed in the second quarter, with Marywood recording the frame's lone shot, which Gracyn Shutt turned away. The Pacers earned an early penalty corner to open the second half, generating two additional shots, including one denied by Lillian Plank. DelVal answered with back-to-back corner opportunities, but Savannah Weaver's attempt on the second sailed wide.

Marywood applied pressure again in the final five minutes of the third quarter, earning four penalty corners and putting two shots on goal, both stopped by Shutt.

The teams remained deadlocked entering the fourth quarter, where the Pacers earned the only two penalty corners of the period. Marywood capitalized on its lone shot of the quarter to break the tie and secure the 2-1 victory.

The Aggies return to Robert A. Lipinski Field for their final home game of the season this Friday, Oct. 23 at 7 p.m. The team will honor its five seniors Jillian Collins, Isabella Davis, Lillian Plank, Ava Smadi and Shaelynn Castanaga-Acerra in a pregame ceremony.
