Box Score READING (Pa.) – The Delaware Valley University field hockey team gave up an early goal to host Albright College and never regained their footing as the Lions earned a 4-0 non-conference shutout over the Aggies.
Albright (1-5) scored 5:12 into regulation on its third corner opportunity of the game. It was the Lions fourth shot on goal in the early going, off the stick of Olivia Lorah that made it 1-0, as Chelsea Johnson was credited with the assist.
DelVal responded by earning a corner down the other end shortly after and Sydney Keagle got a shot on goal, but to no avail, and Albright took a 1-0 lead into the second.
Neither team had a shot on goal in the second quarter until the Lions were awarded a penalty stroke with 1:40 left in the half. Lamya Mejias took the stroke and beat the Aggie keeper to make it 2-0 at the break.
Albright added to its lead just 40 seconds into the third quarter when Mejias took a pass from Jacey Petruno and deposited her second of the night to extend the lead to 3-0. Less than nine minutes later, Mejias set up Johnson for another tally and ultimately the 4-0 victory.
Mejias finished with two goals and an assist and Johnson had a goal and an assist to lead the way.
Kaylee Hartung led DelVal with two shots on goal and keeper Alyssa Rudd made 12 saves in 60 minutes played.
The Aggies will open conference play on Friday night at 7 p.m. under the lights at FDU-Florham.
