Aggies Women's Soccer Drops Home Contest To FDU-Florham

Box Score

DOYLESTOWN (Pa.) – The Delaware Valley University women's soccer team hosted FDU-Florham in Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom play, but surrendered a pair of early second half goals en route to a 3-0 setback.

The Aggies dropped to 6-6-1 overall and 0-3 in MAC Freedom play while the Devils improved to 12-2 and 1-1.

DelVal had the first scoring chance of the game as they took the opening tip and sprung Jess Williamson into FDU-Florham territory and the sophomore dribbled around a defender in the box, but sent a short-angle shot off the outside of the net and the game remained scoreless.

The Devils went on to outshoot the Aggies 10-2 in the first half, but shots on goal were an even one apiece and scoring chances were even.

Just under nine minutes into the second half, Ashley Dietrich collected a loose ball and let a quick shot go from 30 yards out that went through a screen and found the far side of the net to make it a 1-0 game. Less than seven minutes later, Daniella Conanan fired a shot toward goal from in close that Olivia Sherwood saved, but the rebound caromed right to the foot of Mia Lopez and she made no mistake as she tapped it in the open net to extend the lead to 2-0.

DelVal had its best chance to score with 10 minutes left in regulation when Vanessa Dohoney took a pass from Williamson and dribbled to the end line. She sent a perfect cross into the box for Sidney Dispoto, but Dispoto's shot went high over the net and out of play.

Lopez, on her 14th shot of the game in the 86th minute, got her second goal of the game to put a bow on the 3-0 victory. Lopez got behind the defense and was in all alone against Sherwood. Sherwood stopped the initial shot, but the rebound bounced back to Lopez and she tucked it off the far post and into the net.

Lopez's 14 shots and three shots on goal led all players while Dietrich added four shots and three on target. Keeper Erica Blackburn made two saves in goal for the Devils.

The Aggies were led by four shots from Williamson and one shot on goal apiece for her and Gillian Baker. Keeper Olivia Sherwood made six saves in goal.

DelVal will travel to Stevens Institute of Technology on Wednesday for a 7 p.m. contest on October 12th.
