DOYLESTOWN (PA) – The Delaware Valley University women's tennis team picked up its first win of the year with a 7-2, non-conference home triumph over Albright College on Saturday.
The win evened the Aggies' record at 1-1 in the fall portion of their schedule. The Lions fell to 0-3.
DelVal won five of the six singles' matches and took two of three in doubles. One match went three sets and that was at fourth singles where the Aggies'
Laken Henry continued to shine in three-set contests. She dropped the first set to Mary Kramer, 7-5, but came back to dominate the second, 6-1. A back-and-forth third resulted in a 10-8 triumph for Henry.
Allie Vaccaro cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 win over Amanda Camporeale at second singles while
Chloe Dennerlein dropped just three games in a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Sri Yenda at fifth singles. After taking the first set, 7-5,
Tess Hansler lost just two games in the second for the win over Samantha Stichman at the sixth position.
Melanie Mayhew won by forfeit for DelVal at third singles.
Albright's lone triumph in singles' play came at the number one spot where one of the top players in the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC), Mara Trifoi won 6-0, 6-2 over
Natalie Hoffman. Trifoi also teamed up with Camporeale for an 8-1 win over Hoffman and Mayhew at first doubles.
Vaccaro teamed with freshman
Erin Volov for an 8-2 triumph over Stichman and Devon Rubin while Hansler and rookie
Nicki Fox were 8-6 winners over Kramer and Yenda at third doubles. It was the first collegiate victories for both Volov and Fox.
