WILKES-BARRE (Pa.) -- The Delaware Valley University women's tennis team spent the weekend competing at the two-day Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Individual Championships hosted by King's College and Wilkes University at Ralston Field Complex.
Chloe Dennerlein and
Lindsey Echelmeier led the way for the Aggies with a pair of wins in doubles play on Saturday, to advance to the semi-finals on Sunday. In the first match, the DelVal duo defeated Sarah Fleming and Caitlin Knapp from Messiah, 8-5. They impressed in the quarterfinals as they earned a commanding 8-1 match win over Codi Young and Prabhjot Kaur from King's to advance to Sunday.
Dennerlein and Echelmeier met Julliette Marchisio and Gabriella Tantillo from Stevens Technical Institute and fell, 8-3, before the Ducks went on to defeat Lycoming, 8-1, in the finals to earn the title.
Nicki Fox and
Olivia Gorman won their first match at third doubles by defeating Hannah Kapchinske and Heather Schmidt from Messiah, 8-2. They advanced to take on the second seeded duo of Sarah Malone and Alexa Cieri from Wilkes and fell, 8-3.
Miller Huertgen and
Erin Volov lost to a duo from Lebanon Valley in their first match at second doubles, and Lindsey Errickson and
Ally Grzembski dropped an 8-1 decision to the second seed duo from Stevens at first doubles.
In singles play, Dennerlein and Fox were the lone Aggies to secure a win. Dennerlein competed at fourth singles and defeated Mikayla Reynolds from King's, 6-0, 6-0, before falling to the fourth-seeded Emily Wilczek from Lebanon Valley, 6-3, 6-1.
Fox played in the seventh singles bracket and defeated May Lyn Ettinger from Misericordia, 8-6, but then fell to Elizabeth Danovic from Alvernia, 6-0, 6-1.
