Box Score DOYLESTOWN (PA) – Delaware Valley University scored the first five goals of the game and never looked back as the Aggies downed visiting Wilkes University, 11-6, to even its Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom record on the season.
DelVal upped its overall mark to 5-4, including a 1-1 record in league showings. The Colonels slipped to 3-7 and 0-2.
Jordan Smith gave the Aggies a lead they would never relinquish just 55 seconds in as he took a pass from
PJ Rafferty and beat Wilkes goalkeeper Carter Whittemore. Sixty-four seconds later,
Dylan Brasch picked up the first of his three goals on the day thanks to an assist from Rafferty.
Brasch made it 3-0 with 3:35 left in the opening quarter off a
Matt Brady assist. Brady then added an unassisted tally with 2:45 to go to complete the first quarter scoring. Brady played a role in the first goal of the second quarter as he set up
Nick Shendge just 2:23 in.
The Colonels got on the board with back-to-back tallies by John Wink, but DelVal answered with Smith's second goal of the game. Wilkes' Nicholas Ruggiero made it 6-3, but back came the Aggies and freshman
Khalil Lindsey, who scored the first goal of his collegiate career off a Rafferty pass with 2:29 left in the half. Then with 56 seconds to go, fellow rookie
Matthew Laurence connected for his first of the day to make it an 8-3 score at the break.
Laurence had the lone goals of the third quarter to complete his hat trick. The Colonels got three of the four tallies in the final stanza with DelVal's tally coming from Brasch as the freshman registered a hat trick as well.
Brasch had four points on the day while Brady (one goal, two assist), Laurence (three goals), Rafferty (three assists) and Smith (two goals, one assist) had three points apiece.
Cori Grobes and
Danny Smith led the way in ground balls with five apiece while Brash, Shendge,
Tim Dickson and
Alex Hardy had three apiece.
Nic Brown picked up his second win in three decisions as he went the distance and stopped 11 shots.
Wink had three goals for Wilkes. Whittemore and Cody Geidel combined for 15 saves.
The Aggies return to action on Thursday, April 13 (4 p.m.) when they hit the road to King's College for a MAC Freedom outing.
