DelVal Men's Lacrosse Ends Season With Loss To Defending MAC Freedom Champ Eastern

Box Score ST. DAVIDS (PA) – Delaware Valley University concluded its 2017 campaign with a 10-4 setback at five-time defending Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom champion Eastern University
 
The Eagles finished the regular season with a mark of 11-6 overall and 6-1 in conference games and will enter the MAC Freedom tournament as the number two overall seed and will host DeSales University in the opening round. The Aggies finished the year 6-8 overall and 2-5 in league play.
 
DelVal got out to an early lead in this game as Chris Coyle found the back of the net twice in a span of three minutes, 10 seconds for his 23rd and 24th tallies of the season.
 
Eastern responded with a 5-0 run that spanned into the second quarter and was capped off by a pair of goals from Matt Martin that made it 5-2 with just over six minutes left before halftime.
 
Nick Shendge got one back after a feed from P.J. Rafferty, but the Eagles were quick to regain the three-goal lead as Jake Pousson beat the keeper to make it a 6-3 game at the break.
 
Brian Mizell scored 30 seconds into the third quarter for Eastern and it added two more in the stanza to take a 9-3 lead. Senior Troy Darpino, playing in his final collegiate game, scored an unassisted tally just before the end of the third to make it 9-4 heading into the fourth.
 
The Eagles' Mark Buannic scored the only goal of the final stanza to claim the 10-4 victory. It was Buannic's third goal of the day and he finished with three points. Pousson (one goal, three assists) and Trevor Gallion (two goals, two assists) led all players with four points and Martin scored twice.
 
Freshman goalkeeper Nic Brown was outstanding in defeat as he set an Aggie single-game record with 21 saves. Senior defenseman Danny Smith picked up four ground balls and two caused turnovers this afternoon. He set a new single-season record for caused turnovers this year with 43, surpassing his own mark of 36. Rafferty also set a new single-season mark in the game as he lone assist upped his total to 29.
