DelVal Women's Tennis Drops Conference Opener To Regionally-Ranked Wilkes University

EDWARDSVILLE (PA) – The Delaware Valley University women's tennis team kicked off the spring portion of its 2016-17 schedule with a 9-0 setback to 10-time defending Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom champion and regionally-ranked Wilkes University.
 
The Lady Colonels are ranked as high as 16th in the region and, with the win, improved to a perfect 13-0 this season. The Aggies competed today for the first time since September 21 and dropped to 3-3 overall.
 
After dropping the first two singles matches in straight sets, Melanie Mayhew competed at third singles and took three games from Taylor Hoffmann before falling 6-2, 6-1. Chloe Dennerlein competed at sixth singles and also won three games before suffering a 6-1, 6-2 defeat to Nicole Gaetani.
 
In doubles competition, Mayhew teamed up with Natalie Hoffman to take two games in an 8-2 loss to Jordan Vasarkovy and Kendra Croker at first doubles. At second doubles, Laken Henry and Allie Vaccaro dropped an 8-1 decision to Taylor Hoffmann and Madison Salmon.
 
DelVal will compete in another MAC Freedom match next Wednesday, April 5 when it hosts DeSales University at 3 p.m.
