Box Score DOYLESTOWN (PA) – Albright College scored 10 unanswered goals to pull out a 14-8 victory over host Delaware Valley University in a non-conference battle.
The loss dropped the Aggies to .500 at 3-3 while the Lions improved to 2-4.
DelVal controlled the game for much of the first quarter and led 3-0 halfway through the stanza.
Chris Coyle, coming off a five-goal performance in the last game at Kean University, got the scoring started when he cut to the goal and converted a pass from P.J. Rafferty.
Nick Shendge got the Aggie's next two tallies. Rafferty picked up an assist on Shendge's first at 9:55 and defenseman
Danny Smith notched his first assist of the year on the second.
Jordan Zehr got one back for Albright just over a minute later to make it 3-1. However, Rafferty, the reigning Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom Rookie of the Year, responded with two goals separated by just a minute, 18 seconds. On both tallies Rafferty came from behind the net, pivoted, and fired, each from the left of the keeper as DelVal led 5-1 with 4:14 to play in the first.
The Lions' run began about a minute later when Derek Stump found Cam Cetrone for his first of the day. Cetrone (six goals) and Stump (one goal, five assists) combined for 12 points during the Albright spurt that lasted into the third quarter and put the Lions ahead, 11-5, with 6:28 left in the stanza.
Rafferty ended the run with another unassisted goal, but Albright answered with one more before the end of the third to make it 12-6 heading into the final quarter. Stump scored twice more in the fourth and the Aggies got goals from Rafferty and
Matt Tordone before the final whistle sounded on the 14-8 final.
Rafferty scored four times and added two assists to up his team-best totals to 12 assists and 21 points on the year. Shendge scored his fourth and fifth goals of the season and faceoff specialist Tordone picked up his first tally of the campaign. Tordone went 13-for-23 on draws and picked up seven ground balls. Smith led the team with eight ground balls and won both of the draws that he took to go with his one assist. Coyle's tally was his team-leading 14
th of the season.
Gavin Yingling got the start in goal for DelVal and made three saves before being relieved by
Nic Brown, who came on in the third quarter and made eight saves.
Stump (three goals, six assists) and Cetrone (six goals, one assist) combined for 16 points. Strayline and Andrew Potter each scored twice while Zehr added one goal and one assist. Connor Scafidi played all 60 minutes in goal and made 14 saves.
