Box Score DOYLESTOWN (PA) – Delaware Valley University got three goals from sophomore
Jordan Smith, but it was not enough as the Aggies dropped their 2017 season opener to visiting Lebanon Valley College, 12-5.
Smith got the scoring started early when he collected a ball on the right hash mark, cut to the middle and ripped a shot to the top corner from 10 yards out to put DelVal on top 1-0 less than two minutes in.
Less than a minute later, the Dutchmen (1-0) responded with a goal from Matt Torrence. After a Mason Hoff goal, Torrence got his second during a man-up opportunity and Kevin Beaver scored with 3:55 remaining in the quarter to put Lebanon Valley ahead 4-1 after one quarter.
The Dutchmen went on to outscore DelVal, 3-0, in the second quarter to take a six-goal advantage into halftime. Torrence registered his third of the game and Max Warmingham notched a pair of helpers.
The Aggies came out strong in the third quarter and Smith got the team going again with his second of the game on another elevated shot from 10 yards out. Four minutes later, freshman
Dylan Brasch beat his defender, cut to the middle and beat the keeper to make it a 7-3 game with 8:37 left in the third.
DelVal then made it three in a row with a highlight reel goal two and a half minutes later. Lebanon Valley went for a long stretch pass during a clear attempt, but Aggie keeper
Gavin Yingling read the play perfectly and left his crease to pick off the pass. DelVal advanced the ball quickly up the field with a series of passes that ended with

Chris Wren who quickly beat the keeper while flying through the air. The goal pulled the Aggies within three, 7-4.
The Dutchmen got one back before Smith found the back of the cage for the third time to maintain a three-goal game going into the fourth quarter. However, Lebanon Valley was in control during the final stanza, as it scored four more times to pull away with the 12-5 victory.
Torrence finished the game with four goals for the Dutchmen and Klayton Garman notched three tallies and an assist. Warmingham finished with four points on two goals and two assists. Cameron Epple earned the win in goal for Lebanon Valley and made eight saves.
