Chloe Dennerlein each reached the quarterfinals in singles' play while Dennerlein and senior
Laken Henry advanced to the semifinals in doubles' action to highlight Delaware Valley University's first-day showing at the 2017 Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Women's Tennis Individual Championship.
Dennerlein and Henry are the first Aggies to make it to Sunday's MAC tournament actrion in the four-year history of the DelVal women's tennis program. They had a bye in the first round of number four doubles and then knocked the tandem of Emily Herzog and Lindzie King from Stevenson University, 8-4 in the quarterfinals. They will take on Nicole Gaetani and Courtney McCowan ogf Wilkes University in Sunday's semifinals.
Hoffman competed at first singles and opened up the tournament with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Michelle Shedd of Hood College. That put her in the quarterfinals for the second year in a row. There, she faced Nicole DelRosso of FDU-Florham and fell by a 6-0, 6-0 score.
Dennerlein was near the top of the bracket at fifth singles and she defeated Kimberleigh Parroccinni of Lycoming College in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2. Dennerlein then had to face top-seeded Brittany Stanton of Wilkes in the quarterfinals and dropped a 6-2, 6-1 contest.
DelVal had competitors at the remaining five singles' spots as well as the other three doubles' positions. At second singles, junior
Allie Vaccaro fell to Julie Keppel (King's College) 6-2, 6-1. Senior
Melanie Mayhew dropped a 6-2, 6-2 decision to Sarah Chan (DeSales University) at third singles while
Laken Henry suffered a 6-0, 6-4 setback to third-seeded Elizabeth Drda (Lebanon Valley College) at number four singles. Senior
Tess Hansler fell at sixth singles to fourth-seeded Meridyth Sanders (Lebanon Valley) 6-0, 6-0 while sophomore
Nicki Fox dropped a 6-3, 6-2 decision to Kayla Rembish (Misericordia University) at seventh singles.
In doubles' competition, Hoffman and Mayhew took on second-seeded Cassandra Noray and Amanda Phillips (Alvernia University) at the first spot and fell, 8-1. Vaccaro and freshman
Erin Volov took an 8-2 loss to Emily Kabalka and Natalie Coffee (King's College) while Hansler and Fox dropped an 8-1 decision to Martina Gale and Alyssa Santarelli (King's) at third doubles.
