DOYLESTOWN (PA) – The Delaware Valley University men's tennis team opened Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom play with a 9-0 home setback to FDU-Florham.
The Devils improved to 6-6 and 1-0 on the season while the Aggies, competing for the first time in the spring after a pair of matches in the fall, fell to 0-3 and 0-1.
Freshman
Josh Richardson nearly won his first collegiate match for DelVal at number four singles as he tangled with Jason Roth. Richardson took the first set, 6-1, before Roth took the second by a 7-6 tiebreaker (7-2). The two then went to a tiebreaker in the third and deciding set and Roth edged Richardson, 75.
Jase Shakun took five games in a 6-4, 6-1 loss to Jonathon Ford at third singles while
Colin Evoy took four games in a 6-2, 6-2 setback to Jason Dubinsky at first singles. The remaining single match that took place was a straight set victory by FDU-Florham's Steven Serras over
Nicolas Princetta.
The Devils did not lose a game at the first two doubles spots. DelVal forfeits fifth and six singles as well as third doubles.
The Aggies will host Lebanon Valley College for a non-conference match on Wednesday, April 6.
