ANNVILLE (PA) – On Wednesday, the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) announced the 2018-19 Spring Academic All-MAC Teams and senior men's tennis standout
Evan Augsburger (Lancaster, Pa./Lancaster Mennonite) was honored for the first time in his career.
After an outstanding stint with the men's soccer team as a team captain, Augsburger pursued the dual-athlete role when he joined the men's tennis program for the spring season. He quickly earned a spot in the rotation and went on to record a perfect 7-0 record in singles matches and also picked up a pair of wins in doubles play. Against MAC Freedom opponents, Augsburger went 3-0 including a 6-1, 6-1 win at sixth singles against Misericordia University to help the squad earn its first conference victory in program history. In that same match he earned an 8-4 win at doubles.
The Agribusiness major completed his undergraduate degree in three years and topped it off with a near-perfect 3.95 GPA in his final semester. Earlier this month, Augburger was named to the MAC Academic Honor Roll for the fourth time in his career.
The Academic All-Conference Team was created in 2013 to further recognize those who greatly succeed in both athletics and academics. Student-athletes are nominated and then voted upon by the sports information directors of the 17 institutions that make up the MAC. Student-athletes must have a 3.20 or higher grade point average for the semester of the championship season that the student-athlete is competing in.
