DALLAS (PA) – The Delaware Valley University women's tennis team picked up three wins in singles competition, but host Misericordia University came away with the 6-3, Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom victory.
The Cougars improved to 4-2 overall and 2-0 in the MAC Freedom while the Aggies slipped to 7-10 and 0-3. DelVal, in just second year of competition, matched its most wins in a conference contest as it took three games from FDU-Florham earlier in the season.
Tuesday's triumph came at the number four, five and six positions in singles play. At No. 4,
Laken Henry blanked Morgan Gable, 6-0 6-0.
Magen Moore had a 6-3, 6-2 triumph over Kelsey Little and the fifth spot while
Tess Hansler also had a straight sets win with a 6-4, 7-6 (7-5) victory over Courtney Portaro.
Natalie Hoffman nearly gave DelVal a fourth win as she went three sets with Gabby Belles at number two singles. Belles took the opener, 6-2, before Hoffman forced the final set with a 6-4 triumph. The two went back and forth before Belles survived with an 11-9 score.
Melanie Mayhew and
Alexandra Vaccaro captured three games apiece in singles competition. Hoffman and Mayhew teamed up at first doubles and dropped an 8-3 decision. Henry and Vaccaro were blanked at the second spot while Moore and Hansler lost 8-1 at third doubles.
The Aggies have three conference matches remaining, starting with a home contest against Eastern University on Saturday, April 23.
