DOYLESTOWN (PA) – The Delaware Valley University men's tennis team recorded its first win since the program was reinstituted last season as the Aggies downed visiting Bryn Athyn College, 7-2, in a non-conference match on Sunday.
DelVal announced the addition of men's and women's tennis, men's and women's lacrosse and women's golf back in June of 2013 and all five began competition in 2014-15. Of the five, only men's tennis had existed before at the school as the Aggies had a program until the 1960s. Sunday's triumph improved the team to 1-5 on the current campaign while the Lions saw its mark drop to 3-3.
DelVal won five of six matches in singles competition and took two of three in doubles.
Colin Evoy picked up a 6-4, 6-1 win over Nikita Klinisovs at first singles while
Nicolas Princetta blanked Colin Rogers, 6-0 6-0 at second singles.
Josh Richardson had a straight set win over Aron Jackson, 6-2 6-0 at number five singles. Jake Shakun and
Ben Schweiger needed three sets but produced wins over Sean Feyler (5-7, 6-4, 10-3) and Craig Boyd (6-4, 3-6, 10-8) at number three and number six singles respectively.
In doubles play, Evoy and Shakun teamed at the first spot and downed Klinisovs and Rogers, 8-4. Princetta and
Harry Guenst followed with an 8-1 triumph over Feyler and Boyd at second doubles.
The Aggies will travel to Misericordia University for a Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom match on Tuesday, April 19.
