Box Score CENTER VALLEY (PA) –
Samantha Collyer scored just 2:46 into overtime as Delaware Valley University moved into a five-way tie for first place in the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom with a 1-0 road win over DeSales University.
The Aggies upped their record to 5-8 overall, but, more importantly, 2-1 in conference action. The Bulldogs slipped to 4-9 and 0-3.
The two teams combined for just 16 shots over the first 70 minutes of the game, but then had a ton of action in the short, 7-on-7 overtime. First, Collyer took the opening tap, dribbled down and got a shot on goal that was stopped. Three seconds later, the Aggies were awarded a corner, but a
Carlie Baldus shot was blocked off the opportunity.
Back came DeSales and it eventually got a breakaway attempt from Kylie Honnick-Payne. DelVal freshman goalkeeper
Rosie Bishop came out to challenge her and made a brilliant, diving stop.
The Aggies came down the field and
Mackenzie Harper came in as a substitute just as DelVal was awarded the ball on a foul near midfield. Harper took the ball down the right sideline and moved into the circle. She sent a pass to the middle and it eventually found its way to Collyer. Collyer spun and put a shot just inside the left post for the sophomore's first goal of the year and the game-winner.
The Bulldogs had advantage of 10-7 in shots and 11-5 in corners. Bishop made four saves, including the big one in overtime, for her fourth shutout of the year. Katarina Polyviou had two stops for DeSales.
DelVal will host Immaculata University for its final non-conference game of the year on Tuesday, October 11 (4 p.m.).
