Box Score DOYLESTOWN (PA) – The Delaware Valley University women's soccer team battled regionally-ranked Susquehanna University all evening before dropping a 2-0, non-conference decision.
The River Hawks, ranked ninth in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Mid-Atlantic Region poll, improved to 9-2 on the season. The Aggies fell to 2-8-1.
Susquehanna controlled the tempo and pounded 18 shots in the first half, nine on goal, but none got behind Aggie goalkeeper
Emily Schukraft. DelVal's best chance came 16 minutes as
Taylor Boyer got a header off a corner, but it was blocked in front.
The River Hawks hit the crossbar on a header five minutes into the second stanza. Eleven minutes later, a loose ball found its way to Grayclynn Juckes and she blasted one home from just inside 20 yards for a 1-0 lead. Susquehanna then added an insurance tally with 12:54 left as, the ball was blocked to Kate Cantrell off a corner and she scored from 10 yards out.
The Aggies nearly got on the board in the 88
th minute, but
Kylie Williams' shot sailed just over the crossbar. It was the sixth and final shot for DelVal, compared to 28 by the River Hawks. Schukraft finished the night with 11 saves while Jennifer Thorsheim and Jordyn Slocum combined for two saves and the shutouts.
DelVal will return to Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom action on Saturday, October 8 when it travels to Eastern University (12 p.m.).
