Box Score DOYLESTOWN (PA) – The 2016 Delaware Valley University field hockey season ended with a 4-1 home setback to Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom foe Eastern University on Wednesday.
The Aggies, who lose three seniors in
Cecelia Lounsberry,
Stefania Swider and
Rebecca Szatkowski, finished the campaign with a 6-12 overall record and a 2-5 mark in league action. The Eagles, who have one non-conference game remaining on their schedule, upped their marks to 6-10 and 3-4.
Eastern got the lone goal of the first half as Maya Wales put a shot into the low right corner of the cage with 9:14 to go before the intermission. Marissa Laganas then picked up a pair of goals 10 minutes in the second stanza for a 3-0 advantage. The first was a deflection on a shot by Gina Miller while the second was a one-timer of a cross from Alison Hoag.
DelVal got on the scoreboard with 5:27 remaining as there was a scramble in front of the Eastern goal following an Aggie corner and Swider was able to connect from her knees for her third goal of the season and the 17
th of her career.
Hoag ended the scoring with 1:45 remaining as she dribbled into the circle and put a shot inside the far post. The Eagles finished with advantages of 18-12 in shots and 10-7 in corners. Nicole Berger had six saves in the win while DelVal freshman
Rosie Bishop stopped nine shots.
