DelVal Field Hockey Senior Day Spoiled By 4-2 Wilkes Victory

Box Score DOYLESTOWN (PA) – Wilkes University scored four times in the second half as the Lady Colonels spoiled Delaware Valley University's Senior Day with a 4-2, Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom victory.

Wilkes improved to 10-7 overall and 4-2 in MAC Freedom play while the Aggies fell to 6-11 and 2-4. DelVal honored its three seniors – Cecelia Lounsberry, Stefania Swider and Rebecca Szatkowski – in a pre-game ceremony.

The Aggies were outshot, 6-2, in the first half, but they put both shots into the back of the cage. After four big stops by DelVal goalkeeper Rosie Bishop, DelVal got a corner opportunity with 13:33 remaining. Seconds later, the ball found its way to Timera Brooks-Watts. She sent a cross that made it through a maze of players, including the goalkeeper, and right to Kara Imes. Imes settled the ball down and put it into the empty net for her third goal of the season.

The DelVal duo combined again for the second tally, this time with 4:24 to go before the intermission. Imes set a cross from the right and Brooks-Watts was near the post area. She put it past the sprawling goalkeeper for her second goal of the season and a 2-0 lead.

However, the second half belong to the Lady Colonels, starting just 57 seconds in when Taylor Ryan converted a pass from Megan Kane. Twelve minutes later, they tied the contest as Marissa Surdy's shot was topped by Bishop, but Kane was there for the rebound.

Wilkes then took the lead with 20:45 remaining as Surdy's cross was touched in by Keighlyn Oliver. The Aggies had two corners shortly after, but could not score. The Lady Colonels then got a corner of their own and converted it into a goal as Surdy's shot from the top of the circle was deflected in by Alysa Adams with 17:35 left on the clock.

Wilkes had a 14-9 advantage in shots and a slim, 13-12 edge in corners. Bishop had five saves for DelVal while Dallas Kendra made four stops for the Lady Colonels.

The Aggies will end their regular season on Wednesday, October 26 (4 p.m.) when they host Eastern University for a MAC Freedom game.
