Box Score EDWARDSVILLE (PA) – Dianna Connor's second-half goal was the lone tally of the game as the Wilkes University women's soccer team recorded a 1-0, Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom victory over visiting Delaware Valley University.
It was the conference opener for both teams and it was played under heavy downpours throughout the evening. The Lady Colonels upped their overall record to 2-7 while the Aggies slipped to 2-7-1.
After a scoreless first half, Wilkes got on the board just 8:28 into the second stanza. Elena Denger played a ball into the box and Connor was there to deflect it into the net.
DelVal had a chance to tie the game as it was awarded a corner with 22:58 remaining.
Taylor Boyer got a shot off, but Lady Colonel goalkeeper Alyssa Young was there for the save. Wilkes hit the crossbar with 16:47 to go and it stayed a 1-0 lead, but the Aggies managed just one shot the rest of the way and Wilkes had the win.
The Lady Colonels had a 16-3 advantage in shot and edged DelVal, 3-1, in corners. Young had three saves and the shutout while
Emily Schukraft was credited with six saves for the Aggies.
DelVal will host Susquehanna University for a non-conference game on Wednesday, October 5 (7 p.m.).
